Kiln Hill is an ideal base from
where to explore the Lake District and Cumbria. Walking and cycling
can start from the door and there are two golf courses within
easy reach (Keswick and Cockermouth). There is sailing on Bassenthwaite
Lake, the only lake in the Lake District, while the less active
can enjoy boat trips on Derwentwater from Keswick.
The market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth's birthplace, is
only 8 miles away. The town hosts a variety of antique and curiosity
shops for you to browse aswell as Cockermouth castle and the
famous Jennings Brewery.
Keswick is 7 miles and this is where you find the renown Theatre
by the Lake which has an extensive programme of productions throughout
the year. You will also find numerous shops, restaurants, cafes,
museums and a local cinema.
Heading towards West Cumbria brings you the famous Silloth link
golf course, the Aquarium at Maryport, the historic port of Whitehaven,
beautiful St.Bees
Head and Wasdale Valley. Further afield, Carlisle is only 25 miles away and Hadrian's
Wall and the Scottish borders are easily reached on a day trip.
